    Course Description:

The Lower Kinetic Chain is one of the most underappreciated functional subsystems in rehabilitation. Dysfunction in the lower quarter has an almost entirely unique capacity to distribute injurious, biomechanical and neurologic sequelae to remote areas of the body, often manifesting as more than- or something other than lower limb symptoms (incl. persistent lower back pain and shoulder complaints.) This course is a highly practical, integrative approach to lower quarter rehabilitation, which includes instruction in gait and movement assessment, practical pain treatment methods for common lower limb conditions, and the use of the lower kinetic chain as a robust sensorimotor “opportunity” with which to direct profound central nervous system changes. Chronic lower limb conditions are frequently associated with chronic distributed nervous system and upper kinetic chain issues. This course will update the rehabilitation specialist’s skillset to move beyond treating lower limb injuries as isolated conditions.

    Key Concepts include:

    • Updated, Practical Gait Assessment Techniques (incl. application of current technologies such video assessment tools.)
    • Human Gait as a Biomarker – merging neuroscience and biomechanics for broadly applicable clinical assessment and therapeutic tools.
    • Effective treatment for painful conditions of the Lower Limbs.
    • Peripheral neurogenic inflammation in common orthopedic, post-surgical and painful conditions of the Lower Quarter. Post-surgical rehabilitation of common lower limb conditions.
    • Effective and efficient Corrective Exercise applications for lower limb conditions.
    • Rational approach to utilization of ancillary methods incl. taping techniques and orthotic prescription (incl. practical labs in each).
